About Concerto Competition Scholarship

American Scholarship | High school musicians in grades 9 through 12 who will be enrolled in classes in 2020–2021 are eligible to compete. It is possible to apply if you play woodwind, brass, or percussion. The applicant must pick one of the pieces for their instrument that are listed on the application, and they must submit an audio recording of their performance with piano, band, or orchestra.

The concerto competition for high school musicians is now open, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation are happy to announce. Applications must be submitted in full by November 15, 2022. In addition to performing as a guest soloist with the Marine Band in concert in 2023, the winner will also be awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. The winners of the second and third places will earn scholarships worth $1,000 and $500, respectively.

Concerto Competition Scholarship, Eligibility:-

Musicians in high school (grades 9–12) enrolled in the 2022–2023 academic year are eligible to compete. Musicians that play woodwinds, brass, or percussion may apply.
Members of the immediate family of current or former U.S. Marine Band members and previous competition winners are ineligible.
Every applicant must be an American national.

Application Required to Apply for the Scholarships:-

Performance Documentation:

One piece from the repertoire list must be chosen by applicants, and they must record their performance unaltered with a piano, band, or orchestra.
Recordings have to be provided as YouTube videos. Without a link to the video, it is impossible to complete the application.
When uploading a video to YouTube, candidates have the option to make it “unlisted,” which restricts access to those with the direct URL. The applicant has the option to hide from view in the video if they so wish.

Complete and submit the online application form with all the necessary information.

Recommendation letter:

A letter of recommendation must come from a teacher who is knowledgeable about your musicianship. Your teacher must send this letter to Major Ryan Nowlin directly at marineband.submissions@gmail.com.

Important Instructions:-

Finalists will be chosen based on their application materials and invited to Washington, D.C., where they will compete in a public final round performance. By January 1, 2023, all finalists will have been informed. The finals will take place on February 11, 2023, at the Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C., and will be live-streamed at www.youtube.com/usmarineband. In front of an audience and a panel of judges made up of the Marine Band Director, the Marine Band Assistant Directors, and a guest adjudicator, the finalists will perform the same selection they submitted with their application documents.
Candidates who make it to the final stage will be accompanied on the piano by a member of the Marine Band, though finalists are free to bring their own pianist if they so choose.
During their rehearsal period, finalists will have the chance to receive coaching from a member of “The President’s Own.”
The competition winner will also be given a $2,500 grant from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and be given the opportunity to perform his or her solo piece in concert with the Marine Band on April 23, 2023, in the Washington, D.C. region. Scholarships worth $1,000 and $500 will be awarded to the second and third place finishers, respectively.
It is not necessary to memorize the music for any of the competition’s rounds.
