In the field of opera, scholarly research is essential, especially as a foundation for creation and performance. The National Opera Association is happy to announce the thirty-eighth annual competition for research papers on operatic topics, which will take place in 2022.

Eligible Candidates: Any author who is interested may enter the competition. The applicant is required to write a paper on any opera-related subject.

Scholarly Paper Eligibility –

1. All Candidates should be Citizens of the United States.
2. Any author who is interested is welcome to enter the contest.
3. NOA membership is not necessary.

Important Instruction:-

Scholarly Paper | The academic paper should investigate a topic related to opera, give noteworthy findings and recommendations, and include a substantial bibliography identifying primary, secondary, and, if appropriate, tertiary sources. Authors should adhere to the following rules:

• Papers on a subject relating to operatic performance or scholarly study are encouraged.
• The word count for papers should be between 4,000 and 6,000.
• The competition is open to students, adjunct and contingency professors, and junior or pre-tenure academics in order to best serve students and less seasoned researchers.
• The title of the paper, author’s name, address, phone number, email address, and a 100-word biography should all be included on the application form as separate attachments. Please take note that when reading papers, committee members do not have access to identifying information, and bios are kept in case the paper is chosen to be included in the conference program.
• A statement stating that the paper is not protected by copyright by anyone other than the author and has not been published before must be sent with each submission, as there is a limit of one submission per person.
• The author’s name and any other identifying affiliations should not appear elsewhere on the paper submission; just the title should be on the title page.
• Papers that have already been orally given are eligible as long as they haven’t been published or won’t be in any proceedings.
• The range of possible paper topics is as extensive as the genre of opera itself, which encompasses singing, acting, costuming, stagecraft, theater, and historical and theoretical study of the music and libretto.
• The judges will take into account the research’s originality, ingenuity, and timeliness as well as the writing’s clarity and quality. The eligibility of the paper for publishing in The Opera Journal will also be determined by the panel.
