About Steel Interns Scholarships
Students who are enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate program at a recognized North American university are eligible for the scholarship. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and major in engineering or engineering technology.
The candidate must be a citizen of the United States, Canada, or Mexico and agree to a paid summer internship in a company that deals with North American steel. The candidate may also need to move during the internship.
Note: After selection, AIST will help with internship placement; however, candidates are urged to speak with steel manufacturers at career/job fairs and are free to accept a co-op or internship offer at any time from a steel manufacturer or supplier. If an internship is self-placed by the recipient, the internship will need to be pre-approved. To get permission before accepting a self-placed internship, please get in touch with AIST. The candidate will be automatically disqualified if they accept an internship with a business that is not primarily involved in the manufacture of steel.

Steel Interns Scholarships Eligibility –
- Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in college who intend to attend graduate school can all submit applications.
- Students majoring in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Computer science, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Data Science.
- The applicant must be enrolled full-time at an accredited North American university in a four-year undergraduate program or graduate program. A candidate who is employed full-time is ineligible.
- On a scale of 4.0, the applicant’s cumulative GPA must be at least 2.5.
- A strong interest in the iron and steel industry should be demonstrated in the application, essay, and recommendation letter.
- The applicant must be a national of one of the three USMCA nations – USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Application Requirements for Scholarships –
- A Scholarships Application must be submitted by Applicants.
- A current resume detailing employment history, extracurricular activities, and any leadership roles.
- A two-page essay outlining your professional objectives, your reasons for being interested in a career in the steel industry, and how you think your abilities could benefit the sector.
- Provide a high school transcript if you are a first-year university student currently enrolled.
- Letter of Recommendation – At least one letter of recommendation from a professional who is acquainted with the student’s work and/or interests is necessary.
Note: Applications must be submitted electronically by 3 October, along with all necessary documents.
